Shelf Rock is 100% natural oolite limestone dry rock that has been harvested from the Earth where older rock lies. This rock was once a beautiful coral reef structure as you can see in its unique striations. Shelf Rock is porous allowing increased surface area in which beneficial bacteria and algae are able to grow. It also provides extra hiding space for copepods and small invertebrates (e.g. hermit crabs, shrimp, and snails).

The large porous surface combined with the long shelflike shape of this rock is what gives it the name Shelf Rock. When sustainably sourced from the Earth as dry rock, it naturally fractures to create its shelf appearance and shape. It is a versatile type of rock that can add variety to your existing scape, or easily construct a new scape with a stand-out design. Shelf rock will not fall short of helping you create a rockscape that will ooh and ahh.

This dry rock is not man-made; it is real calcium carbonate limestone-structured aragonite we quarry in Florida, far away from living coral reefs. It is completely reef-safe and will not leach any undesirable contaminants into your delicate saltwater system. If you ordered colored rock then please also check out our Touch Up Colorants for after you aquascape so you can cover up the white spots.

This dry rock is super porous with plenty of surface area to grow beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria to act as a biological filter to help maintain pristine water conditions in your tank. PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST CYCLE THE ROCK BEFORE ADDING LIVE ANIMALS!!!

Our Pristine Rock Pico Shelf Tree Rockscape Kit is the perfect DIY kit for all our smaller scale aquarists. Those tiny tanks can be pesky pains to scape so let us make it easy for you! This Shelf Tree Kit is the perfect size for Pico tanks with dimensions greater than the finished piece, which is on average about 7 inches long, 5 inches wide, 6 inches tall. While each rock is unique and measurements vary depending on arrangement of the pieces, the built structure will be around 7"x 5"x 6".

Included in this kit is 5 pieces of rock (ranging from 1-2 pounds), including a base, shelves, and a cap, all drilled with holes to fit the included 5" acrylic dowel. This versatile kit allows you to create different looks by rearranging the order and position the rock is stacked, until you create the rockscape of your dreams.
